The Clam Bar, on the Napeague stretch, is practically a synonym for summer: outdoor tables, fresh clams and seafood—all simple, casual and inexpensive. But what happens after the summer? Nice surprise: the Clam Bar, it turns out, is open until November, every day from noon till sunset, or when it gets too dark to maneuver—weather permitting. So if the sun is shining, throw a sweater over your shoulders and head east (until you’re in Montauk, of course) to the Napeague dunes and wetlands for some chowder or lobster or steamers and a beer in the almost brisk fall air. It’s good, straightforward Hamptons eating.
