SEE AND BE SEEN: August 20th and 21st Benefits for the Performing Arts

Seafield, Site of Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center Benefit, August 20th

It seems to me it was eons ago when we used to go the Westhampton Beach Theater for movies, but checking some dates I realize it was still showing films into the early 1990s.  It was only in 1997 that a newly formed group, the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, bought and renovated the 1932 building, and reopened it as a venue for theater, music, dance and film.  It has since become an integral and admired part of our cultural life in the Hamptons.

A benefit titled “Be My Guest,” new this year but planned as an annual event, will be held on Friday, August 20th beginning with cocktails at the splendid 1903 Seafield estate, to be followed by a series of dinners at private homes.  Seafield by itself is a big draw.  One of the great estates of the Hamptons, it was designed by Henry Bacon—the very architect, in case it slipped your mind, who designed the Lincoln Memorial.  Those guys got around at the turn of the last century.

Tickets for the cocktail reception are $150, and for cocktails and dinner cost $200 per person.  For information: call 631.288.2350 ext 117, or check their website at www.WHBPAC.org

Evidence A Dance Company Benefit, August 21st

On Saturday night, August 21st, Evidence, A Dance Company will hold its annual “On Your Toes” benefit in Water Mill at the home of Bernard and Joyce Mullins Jackson.  The dance company’s mission is to promote understanding of African cultural traditions.  Prince Kunle Omilana of Nigeria, and his wife, Princess Keisha Omilana, will be honorees.  Keisha, born in California, was a fashion designer and model, known for her Pantene commercials.

Tickets are $250 and $500.  For information, call 914.235.1490 ext 16, or visit www.edivencedance.com
