Friday morning at the Farmer’s Market at Nick & Toni’s---Friday evening dinner at home.
Striped Bass from Eric Braun. You’d have to catch it yourself to find anything fresher fish. Topped it just before roasting with Cheryl Stair’s (Art of Eating) marinade.
Swiss Chard from Regina. Loaded with nutrients, easy to prepare and delish. Sauté stems for a moment before adding leaves.
Fingerling potatoes from Sang Lee Farms. Roast with a little olive oil and any fresh herb. Taste as cute as they look.
Golden chanterelles from David Falkowski. Get them dried, reconstitute with a little warm water. Intense woodsy flavor.
Sourdough fig bread from Martine at La Poeme. Authentic, home baked, French flair.
Peaches from Wesnofske Farms. So juicy you might want to stand over the sink. Quarter, serve with a few slivers of dark chocolate.
Wine from my cellar: As my aperitif, a bottle of dry sparkling Boyer Brut ($10, exclusively at Sherry-Lehmann) with a touch of Crème de Mure (blackberry) in the flute, my twist on a Kir Royale or Kir Pétillant. Somehow Hercule Poirot-ish. Then with dinner a bottle of Roman Roth’s Grapes of Roth Reisling, ($22) which with its lively acid is a great match with many foods.
