What We Eat Now: Crayfish Dinner at The Living Room

The Maidstone Hotel in East Hampton has been around longer than than most places.  It was originally the Osborne blacksmith shop, and later became one of a group of Main Street boarding houses before becoming the Maidstone Arms, a full-fledged hotel and restaurant.  It is now called c/o Maidstone, and its restaurant, The Living Room, is one of the most popular places in town.

On August 18, at 6:30 pm they are hosting a Swedish Summer Crayfish Dinner (naturally enough—the owner is Swedish hotelier, Jenny Ljungberg).  It’s all very Nordic with crayfish, drinking songs and party hats.  The wine comes from up north—well, Bedell on the North Fork, and the Purity brand vodka comes from the south of Sweden.  Purity, imported here for only about a year, specializes in H2O infused cocktails.  Frisk, for example, is made in a glass with the lightest wash of aquavit, plus vodka and dill.  The Purity Berry H2O is vodka mixed with water that has been flavored with fresh berries.  Purity comes in a gorgeous bottle, looking like a giant cut diamond.  It all sounds like a made-for-summer-in-the-Hamptons hit.

The crayfish dinner is $75 a person.  Reservations at: rsvp@themaidstone.com
