Top Rosés of Summer 2010

From Remsenburg to Montauk, from Gin Lane to Shelter Island Heights, everything is coming up rosé.  Here are five that we love in the Hamptons in August.

Domaines Ott.  The classic rosé from Provence.  A bit pricey for a rosé at about $35, but cheaper than a trip to St Tropez, its spiritual home and where many of us first discovered it.  Sensuously curved bottle, gorgeous color.

Channing Daughters Rosato di Cabernet Franc, or Merlot, or Cabernet Sauvignon.  From the soil of Bridgehampton, Italian pedigree and technique, world class taste.  $17.  Sold out at the winery but you may find some in stores or on restaurant winelists.

Crios de Susana Balbo, Rose of Malbec (Argentina)  $12.  Crisp reddish pink, great finesse.

Crossroads Winery, Sauvignon Pink (New Zealand)  $11.  Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc teams up with a berry flavor.

Wolffer Estate Rosé.  $14. It’s in the DNA of the Hamptons by now.  Salmon colored, lush nose, delightful going down.

And a sixth, just for, well, you know who you are: Perrier-Jouet Fleur de Champagne, Rosé magnum.  $795.  I’m not drinking it (though I wish I were) but some big spenders around town are.
