It’s the 25th anniversary of the Hampton Classic Horse Show. Hi Yo Silver!

Hi Yo Silver! The Classic’s 25th Anniversary

Expect lots of celebrating, lots of champagne—excellent champagne; Louis Roderer is the official bubbly. Not that any of us in the Hamptons needs an excuse to have a drink and a good time, but the Hampton Classic Horse Show is twenty-five years old. Get started on Sunday, August 27th with gala opening events. Equestrian competition peaks on Grand Prix Sunday, September 3rd.

Table hosts get out the big guns, or at least the big catered platters, on that final day.

Moguls and celebrities and club kids all show up for the Grand Prix. It’s the biggest prize of the horse show—Crown Royal’s $150,000 cup—and the biggest party of the summer. Expect all your favorite Hamptons activities under the tent: high-powered fashion, food, glamour, gossip, beauty and romance, as well as dazzling horses and riders in the rings. If you want to be ultra-shrewd and chic, come during the week with the equestrian elite. It’s sedate, casual, wristband-free, and seriously focused on the sport. The privileged few, some of the world’s richest and busiest people, sit placidly watching Amateur-Owner Hunter and Open Jumper competitions.

You never who will show up; frequent visitors include Kelly Klein, Calvin Klein, Peter Jennings, Martha Stewart, Bill and Adair Buetel, Katie Couric, David Yurman, Len and Louise Riggio, Christie Brinkley, Kate Capshaw, and various Baldwins. But for us, the hottest stars this year will be the 2000 U.S. Olympic team—all female—on their last stop before the Sydney games.
